Taj Deccan unveils Asian Bar & Grill

Hyderabad: November 2009: Taj Deccan, Hyderabad has just launched a new concept culinary experience. The intriguingly named ‘Syn’ is termed as an Asian Bar & Grill & brings together the confluence flavors in a magical setting. Situated just off the atrium lobby Syn sprawls over a large area, encompassing different zones for different moods: an island bar, an interactive cooking station, a lounge as well as a rock-embedded al-fresco area.

Syn’s culinary experience draws from Taj’s Oriental expertise: flavors of authentic Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese & a live Teppanyaki counter will entice guests looking for a never-before experience in Hyderabad. A multi-faceted menu has been created by Executive Chef Sachin Joshi & his team, with inputs from Corporate Chef Ananda Solomon, the master of Thai cuisine in India.

One of the many highlights is the interactive sushi & Teppanyaki kitchen, where the master Chef wields a deft hand. Teppanyaki, extremely popular the world over is an interactive style of cooking where the chef grills the chosen items across the counter & directly flips it onto the plate. The emphasis is as much on the chef’s showmanship & entertainment value as he cooks & feeds the guests. Teppan-style food is extremely healthy & includes a choice of the most exotic sea-food: scallops, lobster, sea bass, octopus, oyster; as well as exotic vegetables & tofu.

Another highlight at Syn is the sushi menu. Authentic sushi, rolled by Chef Francis who has 15 years of experience in making Sushi’s. Sushi, nigiri sushi, maki rolls, available in tasting options will allow for an introduction to this extremely popular delicacy.

The other food options are diverse as they are tempting: after a detailed study of eating habits & likes the menu has been built to include tempura, pan seared scallops, duck liver foie gras, Thai style roast duck, Vietnamese rice-paper rolls, braised turkey breast and of course the traditionally made Thai curries served with jasmine rice; there is enough variety to guarantee many visits! Vegetarian guests are extremely well provided for with ingredients like artichoke, water chestnut, winged beans, silky bean curd, and palm hearts creatively concocted.

The same largess extends to Syn – the island bar. Tibor Duchaj an expatriate barman from Dublin has worked with the local team to concoct a mean set of Syn-specialties: there are Syn inspired martinis, cocktails with champagne, cocktails with fresh-fruit purees, the traditional classics & also a selection of detox cocktails! Community drinking thru super-sized glasses, big enough for ten, termed as ‘Jar-o-syn’ and innovative mock tails, dubbed ‘Sainthood’ add to the fun. A wide but eclectic selection of aperitifs, beer & spirits as well as a super selection of wines ensure that guests will be spoilt for choice. For the connoisseur there are flights of single-malts, vodkas & Shiraz wines.

The ambiance at Syn perfectly combines the high-energy at the bar or interactive kitchen with a laid-back air at the lounge & the bracing feel of the outdoors. Designed & conceptualized by Thom Catallo of Catallo-MacKenzie Design phase allows guests to choose the space according to their mood and also flow seamlessly from one to another, without any discernable boundaries. Unique lighting & music/ sounds enhance the varied energy forms that Syn takes on – tranquil early evenings to higher tides late at night & back to an ethereal calm. Designer Asmita Marwah has dressed the Syn-ners in dark browns & black keeping at its core the Asian symbolism of warmth, friendliness & loyalty.

Another highlight is the Synfresco, The adjoining Al fresco against a stunning backdrop of a rock garden that provides an elegant and intimate setting for a relaxed evening under the stars. Chose from a range of Syn signature cocktails & rare collections of spirits and savor Chefs Pan Asian delicacies amidst lush surroundings.

The aural effects at Syn are meshed by MJ Knittin, reflecting the flow of energy within the space. This erstwhile resident DJ of some of the most vibe-filled clubs in Australia, will rock Syn with his unique stamp of Hip Hop, RnB, Electro, Progressive et al.
