Sania Mirza announces marriage with Shoaib Malik in April

Sania Mirza The Hyderabad Tennis Star Announcing her marriage with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik on April 15 in Hyderabad, tennis star Sania Mirza today said she would retain her Indian passport and play for India in the 2012 Olympics for the country.

Flying back to Hyderabad after a lightning visit to Delhi where she secured visa from Pakistan High Commission for going to Lahore for a reception, she declined to go into “uncomfortable” details about where she met Shoaib but said she knew him for last seven years.

She made it clear that they would settle down in Dubai which she called a “home away from home” and just three hours’ flight from Hyderabad.

During the brief interaction with the media in the company of her father at her residence, the 23-year-old Sania said she would be lying if she did not expect the development to be a shock but both of them and their families were happy about the marriage. She said she had received messages of best wishes from several people both in India and Pakistan.

“We are getting married. We are not also making any political statement or anything on (Indo-Pak) relations. It’s a simple matter. We are getting married. We are very, very happy and our families are very happy,” she said when a reporter asked whether she would like others to emulate her example.

Asked who she would support in case of an India-Pakistan cricket match, she said, “I will obviously support India but I will also support my husband.”

To a question, she said she would continue to hold Indian passport and was looking to play for India in the 2012 Olympics.

“I’m not going to answer nor will Shoaib be comfortable answering personal questions,” she said when asked when the two started seeing each other.

Shilpa Shetty Marriage

Shilpa Shetty is all set to marry Raj Kundra on November 22 at a friend and business partner Kiran Bawa’s bungalow in Khandala, in a quiet and private affair.

The mehendi and sangeet (Nov 21) will also happen in Khandala. Both Punjabi as well as Bunt style rituals will be followed in the exclusive ceremony consisting of a 150 select guests and Raj will make an entry in a chariot with the baraat.

But whether sister and bridesmaid Shamita Shetty will attend the event is yet unknown.

Shilpa, who hosted the Big Boss in an earlier season, is naturally keen to get Shamita out for the wedding, so she is going on the show to announce the date, and then get Shamita to come back with her to Mumbai. But will Bigg Boss aloow that?

We hear that the channels heads have decided to give Shamita an option to walk out of the show. The reaction of the BB3 housemates, after hearing about the wedding, will also be shown.

Meanwhile, more wedding details: The sangeet and mehendi will be Punjabi style and the saat pheras, South Indian. There will also be a reception (Nov 24) in a Mumbai 5-star hotel which will have over 500 guests.

Apart from Shilpa and Raj’s families there will be Shilpa’s father’s businessmen guests, Raj’s business friends and her B- Town friends.

Confirming the news, Kiran Bawa says, “I’m in Montreal right now, but I’m coming back soon. Tarun Tahiliani is designing the lehenga which Shilpa will wear during her pheras. Shilpa and I go back a long way, we’ve known each other since 17 years. Her mother (Sunanda), ties a rakhi to my father. We’re busy decorating my Khandala place and looking forward to the occasion.”
